Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up and no login. You can open the app and begin immediately.

Where is my data stored?

Everything you write stays on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, your journal is also synced privately through your own iCloud account so it's available on your other Apple devices. We can't see your journal either way.

How do I sync between my iPhone and iPad?

Enable iCloud sync in Settings on each device, signed in to the same Apple ID. Your readings and reflections will appear across them.

How do I export my journal?

Export is part of Hermit's Way Plus. With Plus, open Settings → Your Practice to export your readings and reflections as a PDF or Markdown file to keep or move elsewhere.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete individual readings from the Journal, or clear all of your practice data from Settings → Your Practice. Deleting the app also removes its on-device data; if you used iCloud sync, remove it from your Apple account as well.

What are Meaning, Interpret, and Deepen?

Meaning shows the deck's own reading of a card, as reference.
Interpret offers an optional reading of several cards together — one possibility, never the last word.
Deepen is a quiet second mind that asks about what you wrote. It never predicts, diagnoses, or gives advice.

Is my writing used to train AI?

No. When you use Deepen or Interpret, the text you submit is sent securely to our AI provider (Anthropic) only to generate that response. We do not use your reflections to train AI models. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Which decks are included?

Both the classic Waite–Smith 1909 tarot and Midnight Line, an original deck. Both are free.

Is the tarot used to predict the future?

No. The cards are a symbolic language for self-reflection — a prompt for your own attention, not a forecast.

Hermit's Way Plus

What does Plus include?

The app is free and never restricts your journal. Hermit's Way Plus expands the optional AI features — daily Deepen and Interpret, Reflection Memory, and practice export. It's available monthly ($5.99) or annually ($49.99).

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your device: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Hermit's Way Plus, where you can change or cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Plus until the current period ends.

I subscribed but don't see Plus (or I got a new phone).

Open the app's Plus screen and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple ID you subscribed with.
